2. Scenic Drives
Need more ideas of what to do in the Smoky Mountains? Take a laid-back scenic drive through the national park! There’s no better way to spend a day than seeing the sights and hearing the purr of the engine, even better with the sunroof open or the convertible top down! Here are a few of our favorite scenic routes in Great Smoky Mountains National Park:
-
The Tail of the Dragon: As one of the most thrilling routes, this road is not for the faint of heart, with twists and curves, as well as some pretty impressive Smoky Mountain views.
-
Cades Cove Scenic Loop: An 11-mile loop road known for its sweeping valley views, historic buildings, and wildlife viewing. Take Parson Branch Road to exit Cades Cove; it connects with the Tail of the Dragon!
-
Newfound Gap Road: One of the most popular routes in the national park, this road connects the 33 miles between Gatlinburg TN and Cherokee NC and features some of the best overlooks in the area.
-
Foothills Parkway: Another top scenic drive known for its mountain vistas, pull off points, and picnic areas; ga reat way to admire fall foliage, snow-capped mountains, and spring wildflowers.
-
Upper Tremont Road: A lesser-known, more underrated option in a quiet area of the Smokies known for its forest hikes and waterfall trails.
3. Car Shows

While it’s common to meet fellow car enthusiasts when you visit Speedwerkz, the best way to connect with other hot rod or sports car lovers is to attend a car show in the Smokies! You don’t have to register a vehicle in the show in order to attend; simply going around to all of the cars on display is fun and provides ample opportunities to engage with hot rod owners. Some Pigeon Forge car show events, like the Jeep Invasion or Bronco Stampede, will organize group drives in the national park as well!
